    Adhering to the principle of green and sustainable development, Qingdao is accelerating the construction of a batch of ten-billion key projects with “blue, high-end and emerging” features. These key projects will outline the bright prospect of Ecological West Coast.

    Located in Dongjiakou Port, the Sinopec Shandong Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project with an annual gas supply of 4 billion cubic meters has now completed 50% of the overall construction. Once put into operation next year, the project will effectively ease the shortage of gas supply. It is reported that replacing coal with this high-quality natural gas will reduce sulfur dioxide and dust emissions by nearly 100%, as well as reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 60% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 50%. Meanwhile, the project will also benefit the China North Aquatic Products Trading Center and Cold Chain Logistics Base. The gasification and transport of -162 degree liquefied natural gas will generate a large amount of cold energy, which could be used by the aquatic trading center and cold chain logistics base. In this way, it could save a great deal of energy and significantly reduce pollutant emissions

    The energy chain of LNG project is just a microcosm of West Coast’s emphasis on green development. According to the West Coast Economic Area Development Plan released last year, the development of west coast should follow the principle of ecological priority, such as making reasonable arrangements of development timing & orders as well as development priorities & methods in accordance with the carrying capacity of resources and environment, making efficient use of land and sea. The project will develop vigorously the circular economy to build a green and low-carbon new area. Thus, each phase of West Coast construction ranging from park planning, industrial layout, introduction of the projects is all environmental friendly.

    The 14 key investment projects of industry and infrastructure construction promoted this year also reflect the concept of green and ecological development. Relying on the construction of those leading projects, a one-hundred-billion scale automotive industry chain is accelerating to take shape. In addition, the introduction of yacht and cruise manufacturing, aviation and other new industrial projects is also in full swing. (Wang Liyan)
