Carrefour Grows with China
1995 Carrefour took the pioneer step into China, opened a hypermarket store in Beijing - Chuang Yi Jia Store;
1996 Carrefour entered Shanghai and Shenzhen markets;
1997 Carrefour entered Tianjin market;
1998 Carrefour entered Central and Western China, became the first multi-national retailer to open a hypermarket store in Chongqing;
1999 Carrefour opened Grand World Store in Chengdu;
2000 Carrefour China Institute opened to cultivate talents for Carrefour and China’s retail industry. This is Carrefour’s only training institute in Asia.
2001 Carrefour offered full supports for Beijing bid for 2008 Olympics Games;
2002 Carrefour proactively participated and supported Shanghai bid for World Expo 2010;
2004 Carrefour established Carrefour China Food Safety Foundation;
Carrefour opened a store in Urumqi, was the first foreign retailer Northwest China;
2005 Carrefour signed letter of intent with 6 Central China provinces at 1st Central China Expo in Changsha. This is to strengthen the investment and expansion in the Central China;
2006 Carrefour Group’s 1000th store opened in Tongzhou, Beijing, marks the continuous growth of Carrefour in China;
2007 “Energy Saving – Happy Families” Carrefour China’s first energy saving store located in Wuhan;
Carrefour proactively answered Chinese government’s call to conduct Direct Purchase in all China. Carrefour was listed the first batch of direct purchase trial companies by Ministry of Commerce;
2008 Carrefour donated 23 million RMB to Wenchuan earthquake disaster region for the rescue and reconstruction work;
Carrefour donated 2 million RMB to frozen rain hit regions in some Southern China provinces;
2009 Carrefour Partnership Day campaign to establish harmonious and win-win relations with suppliers;
2010 Carrefour entered Hebei market through successful partnership with Hebei Bao Long Cang;
2011 Carrefour set up China’s first A-level Food Safety Lab in Beijing Shuangjing Store. This lab, together with existing 42 smaller food safety labs, formulates a stronger network to control food safety in the whole nation;
2012 Carrefour introduced Group’s global fresh procurement arm SOCOMO into China. This opened a new channel for Chinese high quality fresh products export to global markets. First batch of Ganzhou Naval orange loaded trucks and exported to Carrefour’s overseas market through SOCOMO;
Carrefour donated emergency aid to Beijing’s rainstorm disaster region, through providing daily consumer goods valued 1 million RMB
2013 Carrefour established partnership with universities in various cities of China, offering internships and job opportunities to college students;
Carrefour offered 2 million RMB cash and 500,000 donations in goods to Ya’An earthquake disaster region.
