Last week, Qingdao took the lead to implement the bay leadership in China to strengthen bay management and conservation. The main principals of party and government administration at different levels will assume the post of the chief bay leader within their administrative region and a three-level bay leadership system including municipality, district (city) and township (street) will be built up.
According to the scheme, by the end of this October, the bay leadership system will be built up and enforced in all over the city. By2020, the bay leadership system will improve, the management and assurance capability will enhance remarkably, the ecological environment in the bays will become much better, the water quality will improve steadily, the economic and social functions and natural ecological system in the bays will be more harmonized, the goals of blue bay treatment characterized by limpid water, green shores, clean beaches, beautiful bays and affluence will be accomplished.
Based on the actual bay conditions in all over the city, the scheme has stipulated clearly23 specific tasks in4 aspects including optimizing the scientific allocation and management of bay resources, strengthening bay pollution prevention and treatment, emphasizing ecological renovation and restoration in the bays and reinforcing law enforcement and supervision in the bays.
In recent years, Qingdao has intensified bay governance. For instance, Qingdao has organized and implemented6 projects in Jiaozhou Bay including cross bay channel improvement, pollution source treatment, returning pools into seas, ecological restoration, shoreline control and cross-bay greenway construction. The protection in Jiaozhou Bay has made the following achievements at the current stage. The area of high-quality water area in Jiaozhou Bay has increased to73.3% now from46.4% in2010, remove thoroughly the breeding facilities including net cages and float crafts in the sea area of Jiaozhou Bay, organize and implement the campaign of returning pools into seas, treat and restore a total of about25 square kilometers sea area. The Qingdao enterprise will manufacture the largest ore carrier in the world
On September19th, the first ore carrier of the second generation with the load capacity of400,000 tons in the world constructed by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. was launched in Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. of Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group in the West Coast New Area. This is the first vessel undocked among30 Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOC) booked by China Ore Shipping, China Merchants Steam Navigation Co., Ltd. and ICBC Leasing. It is the latest advanced vessel product in the world.
Commenced on October12,2016 and designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute, the ship has the length of362m, molded breadth of65m, molded depth of30.4m and designed draft of23m. Its navigational speed is14.5 knots and it can endure for25,500 sea miles. It has7 cargo holds and1 LNG hold. The area of its decks is equivalent to three standard football courts. American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) and China Classification Society (CCS) have selected it. All technical performance properties are world-advanced. Full-scale upgrade has been specifically made in terms of subdivision, structure, propulsion, monitoring and loading and prominence has been given to greenness, environmental protection, energy conservation and safety.
This batch of30 vessels will be mainly used for ore transport between China and Brazil. Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. accepts the order of8 vessels of this type. The vessel this time is the first one undocked among the30 vessels. The VLOC of the new generation with400,000 tons load capacity is customized for Vale of Brazil. Compared to the last generation, it can reduce fuel consumption by18.8% and it is more energy saving and environment-friendly.

Qingdao Metro leads to develop the globally leading technology
The overall scheme for train autonomous operation system technology led by the Qingdao Metro Group and jointly developed by CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co, Ltd. passed the expert review last week.
After this globally leading technology is applied, the Chinese rail transit industry will embrace a technological revolution. Trains will go through a large transformation from operation control by signal to autonomous operation. It will greatly enhance the level of automation, intelligentization and cyberization of the urban rail transport system and fill in the technological blank of international rail transit. The departure interval between two trains will be shorten by nearly one fifth, from90 seconds, the shortest at present to about73 seconds.
As a rail transit technological innovation project, the train autonomous operation system will transform the mode of operation from passively receiving signals to positively making choices and omit many procedures including platform computing and instruction delivery.
