The connected infrastructure grid is a key part of the Belt & Road Initiative of China. Fast air corridor is necessary for Qingdao to integrate the initiative. Qingdao airport hence is building up new advantages as an international airport to accelerate its internationalization pace. The latest statistics show Qingdao airport now has 19 international air routes to 10 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Canada, Australia, US, Germany, and Thailand. It reaches out to 15 cities, including Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Tokyo, Okinawa, Inchon, Busan, Frankfurt, Melbourne, New Delhi, Kuala Lampur, Singapore, San Francisco and Bangkok.

Qingdao made historic breakthroughs in intercontinental air routes. In 2016, Shandong has opened 5 direct intercontinental air routes, 4 of which are in Qingdao. They are air routes between Qingdao and Frankfurt, San Francisco, Melbourne, Vancouver Direct air connection between key regional cities in Euro/US/Australia and Qingdao thus built. In 2017, Qingdao airport aims to open another 5 intercontinental air routes to Moscow, London, Sydney, Madrid and LA. Moscow-Qingdao air route is generally confirmed and will be open on 5 July. At that time, the Qingdao airport can reach all major international air traffic key cities in Euro/US/Australia; it also will provide faster air bridge for Qingdao residents to visit Moscow and other foreign areas. US College Students in Qingdao series report 10 US volunteers visit Qingdao empty-nest elderly

“Last time we went here for pairing, this time is for us to visit relatives,” on the morning of 9 June, after 10 volunteers from US South Florida University (SFU) entered the house, senior resident Jiang Hui immediately recognized Gao Kesen (Chinese name) among them, she took his hand and said: “I know him, he came here last year.”

These US students are studying in Ocean University of China as exchange students. They were led by Professor Shepherd, the 1st foreign adviser of Accompanying Empty-nest Elderly with Love all-media charity platform initiated by Qingdao Daily/QD website to visit empty-nest elderly and Jiang Hui paired with them in 2016.

To welcome these children, Jiang got up very early and invited 2 senior sisters to help her. They made dumpling filling, knead dough and made steamed stuff buns. This is what Jiang and Shepherd agreed to one year ago.

“They came here the 28thof June last year.” Jiang clearly remembers the time. She said she never thought they could come again this year, “In last year I promised to make bun for them, but due to limited time I did not, this year I should make it.”

Signing song for the elderly, inviting the elderly to sing together, looking at the photos taken in last year, learning to make steamed stuff bun and these US students feel free with Jiang. Shepherd said, among 10 students visit this time, 5 students paid visit last year. They will spend summer holiday time to study in China.

With dishes of hot steamed stuff bun placed on the table, Jiang prepared two kinds of buns for them, one with meat filling and one with vegetable filling. “This is the lunch for the children,” she said. (Xue Huafei)

Qingdao Textile Museum to open to public in July New Qingdao Textile Museum, built in the former site of Qingdao national cotton textile No.5 factory at No.80 South Siliu Road of Shibei District of Qingdao will complete construction in the end of June and start trial operation in July. As the key project of Shibei District government in 2017, the museum spent CNY 40 million in the 1st phase project. It aims to build the 1st 4A national textile generatrix museum.

“Qingdao is one of the places China modern textile industry born, it is called as Shangqingtian together with Shanghai and Tianjin in China textile industry. Different from Making situation in Shanghai and Tianjin textile museum, Qingdao Textile Museum simply display the situation.” Qingdao Textile Museum director Xiang Yunqiu said. The whole museum links 19 former sites and 9 halls through brand-new generatrix design, enabling visitors to have a different view as they walking. Pacing in the museum, the visitor can see the water tower built in 1934, water alarm valve built by US STAR company in 1933, zigzag factory, water well, which are all witness of Qingdao textile history and harmoniously integrated with the environment in a natural textile museum.
