C40 City Climate Leadership Group (C40) delivered notice to Qingdao for notifying Qingdao to be C40 member city recently.

    C40, which is an international city climate change organization, has a wide influence in the world. It aims to help cities reduce green house gas emissions and climate change risks to cope up with climate change challenge and improve health and livelihood and economic opportunities for city residents. Currently Beijing and Shanghai are C40 observer city. Qingdao to be member cities together with Wuhan, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Other members include London, Paris, New York, Rio de Janeiro,and Tokyo.

    Qingdao will conduct international cooperation in 7 areas with international organization such as C40, including greenhouse gas emissions cap control method and policy research, greenhouse gas list development and capability building, city adapts climate change research plan and action plan, green financing research, climate change strategy research and carbon trade capability building, low carbon park and almost 0 emission park research and building, city green transportation. It is heard that C40 is working with the US Environmental Defense and US Rocky Mountain Institute currently to make policy and attract investment, organizing research institutes and member cities, and cooperate with energy department of China National Development and Reform Committee, National Climate Strategy Center, China Renmin University to support Qingdao in 7 areas.
