Qingdao Dongjiakou Port will use Green power

    The China National Development and Reform Committee and National Energy Administration have jointly issued the Notice of New Energy Micro-grid Model Projects recently; Qingdao Dongjiakou Port new energy micro-grid model project built by Qingdao New Energy Solutions Inc. (NESI) was approved. The projects boost the market-oriented development of local power industry with innovative power service ideology; it is a model project of commercial operation of new energy micro-grid technology application system. It also means that NESI is turning to whole power system service provider from merely a power supplier.

    The Qingdao Dongjiakou Port is one of four major port areas of Qingdao Port. As port facility improves and hinterland transportation demand grows, power demand of the port grows constantly. It is predicted that the annual power consumption will exceed 3 trillion kilowatts. Taking actual demand of the Qingdao Dongjiakou and new energy development into consideration, the NESI has explored all kinds of distributed energy and smart power grid technology application, using its PV, CCHP (combined cooling, heating and power), energy storage system, integrated energy management system based on smart power distribution grid to build an interconnected smart micro-grid to optimize power use within the grid to interact with large power grid, supplying eco-friendly green power for port operation, and to provide duplicable advanced experience for development of new energy micro-grid projects of China.

    The Micro-Grid is a small-scale power generation and distribution system that contains distributed energy, energy storage device, energy transformation device, and load/monitor/protection device. Developing and extending micro-grid enables large-scale access to distributed energy and renewable energy for reliable power supply of multiple energy forms. As an effective way of achieving proactive power distribution power, it enables traditional power grid to transform to smart grid. (Qian Zhuo)
