    On December 22nd 2016, the China Qingdao Facebook and Twitter ((@qingdaocity and @loveqingdao), the overseas special pages for Qingdao City social media of Qingdao Municipal Government Press Office, opened at the same time. This is a bold attempt to innovate the international communication work of Qingdao and a beautiful optical fiber to tell good Qingdao stories, spread Qingdao news and demonstrate Qingdao charm. Only after 4 months since opening the account, The China Qingdao Facebook @qingdaocity has attracted the attention of over 110,000 fans at home and abroad and become another important platform for Qingdao international communication.

    With the huge influence of these two overseas mobile social media platforms, Qingdao Facebook and Twitter special pages demonstrates comprehensively Qingdao from all aspects including Qingdao culture, tourism, education, innovation and entrepreneurship by means of articles, beautiful pictures, and videos. These two special pages mainly target on foreigners who pay attention to the Chinese development and are in need to know about Qingdao, overseas Chinese, Chinese overseas students and foreigners who live in Qingdao or other Chinese places. Every day thousands of people read the related information about Qingdao, compliment, transmit and comment. An Indonesia fan named Sutomo Huang after paying attention to the Qingdao Facebook, left his mailing address and hoped to get the Qingdao brochure to further know about Qingdao. On the next day, the working staff of Qingdao Municipal Government Press Office mailed the fan the Qingdao brochure and CD, thanked him for the love of Qingdao and welcomed him to travel in Qingdao.

    The MTV named Love Qingdao mainly sung by JD, an American in Qingdao looked full of beats and fashion and presented an authentic Qingdao in front of the world. After launching on the two special pages, the MTV has been played for nearly 2,000 times. Moreover a video named “Night Qingdao” authorized by a Qingdao photographer has been watched by nearly 6,000 people after being posted on the two special pages. Many fans browsed the news about many culture and sports activities and exhibitions to be held in Qingdao and said: “It is so wonderful. I will have a tour in Qingdao next year.”

    Besides the priority to demonstrate beautiful Qingdao to overseas users, the special pages on the two platforms also report the life of foreigners living in Qingdao. For example the article named “Foreigners Flying to Qingdao to Learn Needle Kongfu” narrates a story of a group of foreigner students learning medicine in Qingdao and practicing their internship in Qingdao University Affiliated Hospital.

    By paying attention to the special pages on the two platforms, foreigners living in Qingdao and other Chinese places can get timely the updated news and information on Qingdao. During the “2017 Qingdao New Year Beer City Ice and Snow Carnival”, Alice Meyer, a French fan living in Qingdao made a telephone call to know more details about this ice and snow carnival.
