The 1st apple new species rights transition signing ceremony was held in the Qingdao Agricultural University (QAU) recently. The new apple species Fuli, which is cultivated by research team led by QAU professor Dai Hongyi for 21 years, was transited to Zi Ran Nong Fa Shanghai agricultural technologies company with the price of CNY 1.56 million.
With Telamon and Fuji as its parents, Fuji was hybridized in Laizhou in 1995, and planted in Wanzikou of Penglai in 1996, and fixed planted in 1997, in 2003 it was engrafted to its parent tree for yielding, in 2014 it had passed experts’ review.
The Fuli apple usually grows for 165 days, and ready for harvest in middle of October. A 6-year tree can produce 34.77kg apples; the average production per mu is 1529.92kg. The apple showed great advantages after many years test. Fuli has 3 prominent features, one is the apple has very beautiful red appearance without bagging; the 2nd is its sugar content, which is 1.2 degree higher than Fuji apple widely planted in Shandong, and the soar level is lower, which brings sweeter taste; the 3rd is excellent anti-disease performance, it is durable for storage after picked up.
Professor Dai said, the transition of Fuli apple shows the respect to new fruit species rights of market, as well as appraisal to team who has worked hard for many years to cultivate new species. “I wish the transition of species rights can make contributions in enriching apple species and boosting category structure adjustment to better turn scientific research result into actual productivity.” (Guo Jingli) [Photo: Fuli (left) and Red Fuji (right)]
