In the year to come, many significant sailing competitions will be held in Qingdao including the City Clubs Open Regatta International, International Extreme Sailing Series Qingdao session, Qingdao International Week of Sailing and “Far East Cup” International Sailing Rally etc. Qingdao will also bid for 2019 International OP World Sailing Championship. Currently Qingdao is vigorously preparing for the bid.

    In 2016, totally 8 major international sailing competitions have been held in succession in Qingdao. Therefore the international influence of the city brand “Sailing City” has further enhanced. Qingdao has been conferred the award of 10 years’ wind surfing award jointly issued by the World Sailing an Asian Sailing Federation and the award of outstanding contributions by Chinese Sailing Association. In the future year significant sailing competitions will still be highlight plays to construct the “Sailing City”.

    From April 28th to May 1st, as the most spectacular professional sailing competition undertaken by Qingdao, the International Extreme Sailing Series will be held in Qingdao for the 7th consecutive time, which will put on a fabulous show of “F1 on the sea”. The 9th Qingdao International Week of Sailing and Qingdao Marine Festival will take place from August 11th to 20th when the “Mayor Cup” International Sailing around the Island and Qingdao International OP Sailing Camp and Race will occur one by one.

    In addition, 2017 Qingdao international college students’ sailing training camp will commence this May and last until this October. After the training, the competition will follow. Currently 26 domestic and foreign universities have signed up. With the successful experience of hosting the 1st competition, the 21st century marine silk road-”Far East Cup” International Sailing Rally will take place this September as scheduled. 2017-2018 season Clipper Round the World Race will continue to berth in Qingdao. Currently the selection of Chinese crew on “Qingdao”carrack has been finished. And Qingdao session activities will be held in Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center on March 2018. Wang Dawei
