Qingdao has achieved a lot in implementation of the One Belt One Road cross-border multimodal freight transport project. In 2016, 483,000 TEU were transported through this method in Qingdao, 60% up year-on-year, ranks No.1 among all domestic ports.
The Qingdao One Belt One Road cross-border multimodal freight transport project was selected as the national model project in 2016. The project links several multimodal lines based on Qingdao port and CRIntermodal central station (Jiaozhou station) as transport hubs. The Jiaozhou-Huangdao Small Transport short-distance freight line, Middle Asia cross-border freight line and Sino-South Korea special permitted batch transport line are all included in the model lines.
According to officials of Qingdao port, since 2016, the Qingdao port fully leverages its advantages as a comprehensive port and takes the chance of entering the national model project to advance the development of the model project. By now Qingdao has opened 31 multimodal freight transport lines, 20 of them are within the province and 7 are inter-provincial and 4 are passing-by lines. A marine-railway multimodal logistics artery that covers all of the Shandong province and influences coastal area and direct to Middle Asia is basically established. It laid the cornerstone of building a multimodal transport project and opening the marine-land multi-direction logistics channel to further implement regional cooperation for supporting the national strategy.
