The Chinese State Council has recently issued the Consent to the Opening of Dongjiakou Port of Qingdao, Shandong. It means that Qingdao will have two Class A seaports including the Qingdao Port and Dongjiakou Port and enter the new era of “two ports in one city”.
As an important project of Qingdao strategy of building up blue industries and the Northeastern Asian International Shipping Center, the Dongjiakou Port will undertake the significant mission of transforming and upgrading the Qingdao Port to a large port of the 4th generation. The planned area is 72 square kilometers with a total length of about 35.7km frontage. 112 berths will be constructed. After completion, the design through capacity can arrive at 360 million tons per year. According to the general planning, by the year of 2020, the throughput capacity of Qianwan harbor district and Dongjiakou port area will rank 3rd in the world and become the genuine super port in the world.
