In recent three years, Qingdao has been speeding up building energy conservation work including solar photovoltaic power generation, energy saving reconstruction of existing buildings, green architecture and low energy consumption buildings. Qingdao is at forefront level for building energy conservation in China.

    In recent three years, the energy saving buildings with a total area of 55 million square meters have been completed and the rate of reaching energy conservation standards is basically 100%. It has been accelerating the promotion of solar photovoltaic power generation. 16 solar photovoltaic construction projects in Qingdao have been listed as national demonstration projects. The approved installed capacity for generating sets has reached 122.18 Mw and the application scale is the largest among all Chinese sub-provincial cities. After all the projects are put into production, it is expected to generate 117 million kwh annually. The pace of constructing national demonstration city of renewable energy application in buildings is also hastening. The municipal finance has input a special fund of 77.8 million yuan to support the expansion of renewable energy buildings. A total area of 5.49 million square meters renewable energy buildings has been added in Qingdao and Qingdao has been rated as the national demonstration city of renewable energy application in buildings.
